| Who receives speech/language services? |
- Children with a current IEP (Individualized Education Plan) who have been tested and determined eligible for speech/language
- New students who had speech at their previous school (including Head Start) will automatically be enrolled here
- Make sure the office knows your child had speech so the appropriate paperwork can be done.

| What types of services are provided? |
- Speech/language services are a combination of pullout and classroom-based, small group or individual
- The services depend on the needs of the student
- RTI (Response to Intervention)
- This trend involves applying interventions to students in real-time before waiting for them to fail
- More students may receive speech interventions who do not have IEPs. These will likely be short-term (3-6 weeks) and classroom-based

| Speech/language screenings |
- Conducted annually for children in kindergarten
- Conducted annually for students new to the corporation
- Conducted as needed at teacher or parent request

| Process for new enrollment in speech/language |
- Screening
- Permission obtained to test
- Testing done (usually a battery of 2-3 assessments)
- Meeting with parent, administrator, teacher, and therapist
- Enrollment (if criteria met)

| Hearing Screening - By law, the following students are screened: |
- Kindergarten
- 1st grade
- 4th grade
- 7th grade
- 10th grade
- New students
- Students enrolled in speech/language services
- Students being referred for special education testing

| Students who fail the 1st screening |
- Rescreening occurs within 2-4 weeks
- If the student fails again, a referral is made to an ENT (ears, nose, throat doctor) and an audiologist
- An ENT can determine if the problem is medical in nature, prescribe medicine
- An audiologist can test the hearing more thoroughly, diagnose amount of loss
