Background Information
Approximately 15 miles from the Indiana-Illinois border, and midway between
Lafayette and Terre Haute, lies the Southeast Fountain School Corporation.
The school facilities are situated on an 80-acre site two miles southeast
of Veedersburg.
The rural community that makes up the school district of the Southeast Fountain
School Corporation lies within an approximate 15 mile radius of the school
system and comprises approximately 150 square miles of typically agriculteral
land. The school district includes Cain, Jackson, Mill Creek, Richland and
Van Buren townships.
Business and Industry
Historically, the most predominant economy in the school district was related
to agriculture. Recent years have seen the development of two significant
manufacturing employers. Masterguard
and ThyssenKrupp Gerlach,
both manufacture auto parts. The third largest employer is the Fountain
Foundry, which has been a long time member of the economic community.
Overview of the Educational Program
The Southeast Fountain School Corporation consists of two buildings, a K-6
elementary school and a 7-12 junior/senior high school, located on the same
campus as the administrative office. The elementary school, built in 1972,
was created to accommodate the consolidation of five elementary schools. Major
renovation added classroom walls in 2004 that eliminated the buildings original
open space concept. Special education is housed in this building including
learning disabled, speech and hearing, physically handicapped, emotionally
handicapped, and mildly mentally handicapped.
The elementary staff consists of approx. 36 classroom teachers, a music specialist,
physical education instructors, a Title I teacher/coordinator, special education
teachers, a media specialist, and a guidance counselor.
The junior high (grades 7-8) and the high school (grades 9-12) are housed
in one building. Sharing all resources and facilities, approx. 20 combination
junior/senior high school teachers, approx. 5 junior high teachers, and approx.
13 high school teachers work interdependently and provide students with individualized
activities that correspond with appropriate academic grade levels.
Curriculum - Elementary School
The elementary curriculum provides well-grounded experiences for the students
in the school system. The curriculum is supplemented by a Title I programming,
a K-1 transition program, technology education, and a media center with freely
accessable academic materials and computers.
Extra curricular activities for students include academic offerings such as
Science Fair, Spell Bowl, and the Indiana Mathematics League. Athletic activities
available for students in grades 5-6 include: basketball, wrestling, track,
cheerleading, and swimming.
Curriculum - Jr/Sr High School
The curriculum of the Jr/Sr high school includes more than 100 seperate
courses, reflecting a broad spectrum of academic and non-academic disciplines.
All students follow a traditional schedule, with seven structured class periods
of 50 minutes per day. The high school is also a member of the Tri-County
vocational program offering programs in auto mechanics, computer aided-drafting,
cosmetology, heating and air, horticulture, machine trades, and welding.
